Atlantic Beach approves motorcycle rally plans
ATLANTIC BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Atlantic Beach Town Council has agreed to hold this year’s Bikefest motorcycle rally.
The decision came after a three-hour meeting that including council members yelling at each other.
Town officials have been worried about how to pay for this year’s event.
Councilwoman Windy Price suggested the town sponsor this year’s May event with a minimum of expense – paying only for extra police officers, cleanup and portable toilets.
The suggestion was approved on a 3-1 vote. Councilwoman Carolyn Cole voted against sponsoring the rally, saying the town cannot afford it.
She suggested leaving the event to the motorcycle groups that started it.
Bikers told council members that motorcycle riders would be in Atlantic Beach this year, whether the town paid for the event or not.
