Sullivans Island wants old warehouse, dock
SULLIVANS ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — The town of Sullivans Island is considering a swap with the state of South Carolina to acquire an old warehouse and dock on the Intracoastal Waterway.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported (http://bit.ly/yljohC ) the half-acre property includes a 10,500-square-foot brick warehouse and 13,400- square-foot wharf with a small house.
The state plans to auction the property March 21. The minimum bid is nearly $800,000.
Sullivans Island is considering a proposal to offer to take over maintenance of some state roads in exchange for the property.
Sullivans Island is interested in the warehouse as a possible location for a new town hall. The old facility was closed because of mold problems.
State officials expect two groups to bid for the property.
