Evening Anchor
Doug Currin is an Emmy, Edward R. Murrow and Associated Press award-winning journalist whose work has taken him from being embedded in the war in Iraq, Kuwait, and all around the U.S..
Currin has covered nearly every aspect of momentous journalism for 20 years. Specifically the military is his niche, a lifestyle he has lived and covered for 15 years.
Now he co-anchors ABC Columbia News at 5, 5:30, 6, and 11pm.
Before working in the Midlands, Doug was in the Great Smoky Mountains, then for eight years in Waco, Texas. Doug was the principal evening anchor and managing editor for the day’s flagship newscasts and simultaneously contributed to all media platforms within the station.
Currin steered coverage for several nationally-covered breaking news stories: the second Ft. Hood shootings, Twin Peaks massacre, the West, TX fertilizer plant explosion, a local hospital explosion, and the Dallas, TX shootings, and so many good stories in the community, too.
In Scranton, Pennsylvania, his political coverage was unrivaled in covering former President Bill Clinton’s role in a local election scandal. His work was noted in a national political documentary. He also secured an interview with President Joe Biden.
In Fayetteville, Arkansas, he covered several Fortune 500 companies headquartered in Northwest Arkansas including Walmart Stores, Inc. and Tyson Foods and more.
During his storied career, Currin has had the opportunity to interview former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former President Bill Clinton, Former president Donald Trump, President Joe Biden, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel-al Jubeir, leading figure in the Civil Rights Movement Vernon Jordan, Senators Ted Cruz, John Cornyn, Elon Musk, and many other national and international leaders including lawmakers working on Capitol Hill for dozens of states.
Before moving into local news, Doug was a producer for Wolf Blitzer at CNN in Washington, D.C., where he covered the death of Saddam Hussein, the war in Iraq, and other national and international stories.
He got his start in broadcasting in radio in the Washington, D.C. and New York City areas, working with legendary personalities in major markets.
Currin is an inducted member of the National Press Club in Washington, DC, a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, and the RTDNA.
He graduated from George Mason University just outside of Washington, DC, and is now an invited guest lecturer on the political economy of media.
