Winthrop student assaulted just off campus

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — A Winthrop University student has been attacked while she tried to rent a movie outside a drugstore near campus.

Authorities said the 21-year-old was choked after she yelled for help when a man came up to her last week and demanded her car keys.

Police arrested the man several minutes later in the victim’s car.

Investigators say 30-year-old Lamarcus Williamson is charged with grand larceny, strong arm robbery, first-degree assault and battery and multiple drug charges. He was being held at the Moss Justice Center with a $45,000 bond, and it wasn’t clear if he had an attorney.
