APNewsBreak: Haley budget director joining DHEC

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Gov. Nikki Haley’s budget director is leaving to become South Carolina’s program coordinator for public health.

Department of Health and Environmental Control Director Catherine Templeton told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Jamie Shuster is joining the agency later this week.

Templeton says Shuster will make around $90,000 in the newly created position that will work to ensure that agency-wide goals are being met on the local level. Templeton says one of the first things Shuster will do is assess the state’s county health departments and see where changes and reform are needed.

Shuster makes $65,000 in her current position. Haley’s office did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
