(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C., –They may only be children, but that didn’t stop them from taking part in a chance to learn some real adult lifesaving skills. The Red Cross is teaming up with the Richland County Recreation Commission to teach students from the third grade and up how to recognize the signs of a potentially deadly emergency and how to act fast enough to make a difference. Red Cross instructor Stanley Dowling says the civilian course each of the students learned is the same information taught in the 4 hour adult classes. The biggest difference, this technique is hands only. Giving them all of the tools they need to help extend a persons life until ems arrives on the scene of an emergency. Officials say this particular technique helps greatly increase the chances for survival of cardiac emergencies which happen outside of a medical setting.
