Space convention meeting on Hilton Head Island

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — Scientists and astronomy enthusiasts from around the country are coming to Hilton Head Island to talk about the planets and the stars.

The Kepler Space Institute Convention opens Wednesday and continues through Friday.

Institute president Robert Frantz says the convention will feature discussions about space and about raising public awareness of the topic.

Frantz says one of the goals is to interest local school students about space. He says for him, growing up in the 1960s during the space race, a lot of young people were encouraged to go into science and math.
