Juilliard musicians visiting Allendale school
ALLENDALE, S.C. (AP) — Musicians from one of the nation’s top performing arts schools are visiting with students in South Carolina.
The Juilliard Percussion Ensemble is making a stop on Thursday at Allendale Elementary School.
Organizers say the group is performing for about 300 students and is featuring genres including Latin American and African drumming. Musicians will work one-on-one with members of Allendale’s Steel Band during a special seminar.
The visit is made possible by Savannah River Nuclear Solutions. The contractor manages the Savannah River Site, a 310-square-mile complex near Aiken that once made nuclear weapons components but now focuses on clean up and research.
