Locks changed, SLED arrives in Atlantic Beach

ATLANTIC BEACH, S.C. (AP) — The locks have been changed at Atlantic Beach Town Hall and state agents are in the Horry County town for an investigation.

Atlantic Beach Police Chief Mike Bordner said town officials changed the locks Thursday because Benny Webb’s resignation as town manager became official.

But Town Councilman Jake Evans says there was no vote to change the locks and Webb was still working as town manager and planned to stay until a replacement was found.

Also on Thursday, State Law Enforcement Division agents showed up in Atlantic Beach. SLED spokeswoman Kathryn Richardson says they are investigating a former town manager, but would not release any other details.
