USC Law School Symposium

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ The University of South Carolina School of Law is hosting a symposium that brings together legal experts, prosecutors, defense counsel and law professors to discuss ethics and potential cases of wrongful conviction. University spokeswoman Peggy Binette says Friday’s series of panel discussions will inquire into the role of the ethical rules governing prosecutors, and the potential violation of those rules, in permitting or preventing misconduct. Other panels will discuss unreliable confessions and a review of prosecutors’ duties when faced with evidence of innocence. A wrap-up panel will discuss the prosecutor’s duty to seek justice, not just convictions, with the goal of offering guidance to prosecutors intent on doing the right thing.
