Students in SC for regional robotics competition
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — More than 1,000 high school students from six states are facing off in North Charleston for a regional robotics competition.
The Rebound Rumble is scheduled to open Thursday and continues through Saturday at North Charleston Coliseum. It features 42 teams who in recent weeks have built robots from a standard set of parts to toss basketballs through hoops. The teams are judged both on how many baskets are scored, but also on robot design, team spirit and perseverance.
Regional winners advance to the national competition in St. Louis next month.
Helping to launch the competition are North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey, state Education Superintendent Mick Zais and Citadel President John Rosa.
