NC man found shot to death at Blacksburg pond

BLACKSBURG, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a couple has found a man’s body by a pond in Blacksburg.

Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says 23-year-old Gregory Sarles of Charlotte, N.C., had been shot several times. An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday.

Investigators say multiple shell casings were found nearby, and that Sarles appeared to have been dead for several hours before his body was found around 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

Fowler says the body was found by a couple checking turtle traps they had set the afternoon before.
