Charleston County deputy shoots motorist
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A Charleston County deputy shot and wounded a motorist authorities say was trying to flee a traffic stop.
Authorities say Deputy Shawn James pulled over 21-year-old Terrance Green Monday afternoon and asked for his license and registration. Deputies say James fired multiple rounds after Green drove off and tried to hit him.
State police are investigating the shooting. There was no immediate update on Green’s condition, and authorities say he was injured in the elbow and shoulder. He has two prior convictions for running from police.
Authorities say James survived a wreck with a drunken driver in 2005 and shot an armed and wanted man after a chase in 2007. He spent several months on leave after the 2007 shooting, which prosecutors ruled was justified.
