Man charged in 2009 Colleton County homicide

WALTERBORO, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a man serving time in federal prison on a weapons violation is charged with murder in the killing of his ex-girlfriend nearly three years ago in Colleton County.

Authorities said 41-year-old James Campbell was served with a murder warrant Friday in the May 2009 death of 42-year-old Marlene Linder.

Investigators say Linder was shot twice with a shotgun as she tried to get into her home. The victim’s 16-year-old son found her body.

Campbell has been denied bond on the murder charge. It wasn’t clear if he had a lawyer.
