Dozens of guns off streets in Horry County
CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Things are a bit safer in Horry County now that 135 guns and rifles have been taken off the streets.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports (http://bit.ly/Hwr9T4 ) Conway City Council was told Monday that the weapons were bought during a gun buyback last month.
Conway police and the Horry County Sheriff’s Department bought the guns from owners. Officers spent $10,000 of the more than $16,000 available for the program.
Conway and Horry County each contributed $5,000 with the rest of the money coming from private contributors.
Conway Councilman Larry White says the program would have been a success if even just one gun was taken off the streets.
