Officials identify man killed in Columbia club

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Richland County officials have identified the man shot and killed in the parking lot of a nightclub last weekend.

Coroner Gary Watts says 26-year-old Thai Quoc Tran of Columbia died after he was shot several times in his vehicle at a Columbia-area nightclub Friday night. Watts says Tran died at the scene from gunshot wounds.

Investigators say Tran’s vehicle had hit several other vehicles in the parking lot and a club security guard tried to remove the keys from the vehicle. They say when Tran tried to drive away, several other security guards at the club fired.

The officer who tried to remove the keys from Tran’s vehicle suffered a broken leg.

Sheriff’s deputies have not decided whether to file charges.
