Kershaw County Coroner reports drowning at Lake Wateree

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– Kershaw County David West says a man from the Camden area drowned at Lake Wateree Wednesday. Officials say it happened at the Buck Hill Landing on the Lugoff side of the lake.

Authorities in Kershaw County say a 911 came in at 6:53 p.m. stating that a man went under the water and did not come back up. Investigators say the man walked down the boat ramp and stepped off the end of it, but he could not swim.

The coroner says the victim was 54-year-old Douglas Belton Jr., who was at the lake with some friends.
