SC man arrested in slaying of Cheyenne transient

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A South Carolina man has been arrested in the slaying of a Wyoming man last summer.

Thirty-two-year-old Bradley O. Petty was being held in jail in Lexington, S.C. Friday, a day after his arrest.

He’s accused of robbing and killing 35-year-old Jerry Mosher in Cheyenne last August. Mosher was a transient whom investigators say offered to help Petty and a friend who had recently moved to the city.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle says the break came in mid-May when a man emailed the newspaper saying he knew someone who witnessed the murder — Petty’s friend Shannon McAteer.

McAteer told police that Petty struck Mosher with a hammer as they set up camp, choked him and later put his body in the lake. He also allegedly took $34 from Mosher’s wallet.
