Operator of North Charleston home arrested
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The operator of a North Charleston group home for the elderly and disabled has been arrested and accused of neglect.
Residents of Fair havens Manor were removed after Thursday morning’s raid.
.Sixty-eight-year-old Andrea Magwood is charged with neglecting a vulnerable adult at the eight-room house licensed as a 20-bed assisted-living home.
Officials say they are increasing oversight of small assisted-living homes.
Police say they took a 79-year-old resident to the hospital for treatment. Doctors say the man was severely malnourished and dehydrated.
Officials say Magwood has operated group homes for about 35 years. Her license had been suspended in 2004 and her facility was fined more than $8,000 for violations at the home.
It was not clear if Magwood has an attorney.
