Body found in marsh in Beaufort

BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) — An autopsy is planned on a body found in a marsh in Beaufort.

Authorities say the body was found Monday afternoon and the cause of death is expected to be determined when the Tuesday autopsy is complete. Beaufort Police Chief Matt Clancy said it was too early to say whether the death was accidental or suspicious.

Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen said the remains have tentatively been identified but said no details will be released until after the autopsy. The body was discovered by a man who saw vultures circling the marsh.
