COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “It’s a very bad sickness, I think that it’s very bad for their life.” That’s how 8 year old Colton Duncan describes children’s cancer. But he says he wants to help. “I know that when life puts your through bad things, something good usually comes out of it,” says Duncan. Colton is finding that good by going bald for Bella at a head shaving event at Snip-Its in Lexington. An idea he got from his baseball coach. “He shaved his head for children’s cancer, and it kind of inspired me,” says Duncan. Colton’s Mom Lori, helped him find Bella. Colton got the chance to meet Bella for the very first time on Friday. “I don’t even know what to say to people like that, especially children that do things like this, it’s incredible,” says Dan Steuer, Bella’s Dad. Bella was fresh off of a clinic day on Friday, where doctors check her blood count, and this time, it was good. Dan says the hardest time for them are when things are quiet. “When everything is going on, it’s ok because you don’t have to think, but when you think too hard on it, it hits hard,” says Steuer. Bella’s hair is just now starting to fall out and Dan says she’s starting to notice. “She’ll point to her ears and ask why is it cold there and that’s when we have to explain to her that she is losing her hair,” says Steuer. But Bella has Colton on her side. “I want her to be helpful, because I know she doesn’t feel good right now,” says Duncan. Colton says he hopes this Saturday, others will help Bella too. “One person no matter how big or how small, can make a difference,” says Duncan. Bella’s Dad says this will be the first party for Bella in nearly 9 months. Her doctors have given her the okay to attend the event. Colton says he hopes to raise $1500 at the event. The event will be held at Snip-Its in Lexington, this Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Attendants will be able to have their faces painted, also live entertainment and give-aways will be provided.
