3 SC employers praised for Guard, Reserve support

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A Defense Department agency is recognizing three South Carolina employers for their support of National Guard and Reserve forces.

The three employers are Savannah River Nuclear Solutions of Aiken, the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office and the television show Army Wives, filmed in Charleston.

The organization known as the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve says the three firms are semifinalists for the 2012 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award.

Nominations come from Guard and Reserve or family members. They are cited for such things as providing full benefits when an employee is on military duty, or caring for the families of deployed employees.

The three are among 133 semifinalists chosen from more than 3,000 nominations. Winners will be announced next month.
