Dozens Line Up for Free Dental Care
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “I can’t wait to get in the door,” says Melissa Beasley. Beasley was at Chrysostom Dentistry at 6:00 o’clock Friday morning. “I’ve got a tooth in the top of my mouth that’s been open with the nerves exposed for 10 years,” says Beasley. She’s here to have the tooth pulled, for free. “I can’t eat anything, drink anything cold or sleep at night,” says Beasley. She joined many others Friday who waited in line for hours. Crandall Sims reporting, “Everyone you see here beside of me is here for an extraction, cleaning or feeling. Some of them spent the night here.” “I think a lot of what we do, other than obviously the dentistry is just provide some compassion and some hope and some caring,” says Dr. Deno Chrysostom, DMD, PA. Dr. Chrysostom has hosted the event for three years now. “It’s just the right thing to do, I guess the question, the real question is why not?,” says Dr. Chrysostom. But his work goes much further than today, just ask Ruth Williams. “I have a daugther with a problem with her teeth and I’m a single mother and we didn’t have any insurance and her teeth had been hurting for seven weeks,” says Ruth Williams. Until yesterday, when Ruth says Dr. Chrysostom helped. “Took my daughter tooth off for zero. My daughter’s mouth ain’t hurting no more. No more infections in her gum because of this man’s kindness,” says Williams. Friday, she was on hand to help others in need. “Today I came back out here to give back what he gave to me yesterday,” says Williams. Those inlcude Melissa Beasley. “Very emotional and she’s right its’ God’s work, it’s the Lord’s work,” says Beasley.
