Liberty High teacher dies in horse riding accident

LIBERTY, S.C. (AP) — Liberty High School is mourning the death of one of its teachers who was killed after falling off a horse.

Authorities said 63-year-old Pam Scott was wearing a helmet when the horse she was riding Thursday night stumbled.

Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore says Scott fell, striking her head, and died a short time later at the hospital from a spine injury.

Scott was an English teacher at Liberty High School for about 10 years. The school brought in councilors for students and faculty on Friday.

Principal Lori Gwinn says Scott planned to retire at the end of the school year.

Authorities have ruled Scott’s death an accident.
