State’s Fallen Soldiers’ Families Honored
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Republican Senator Jake Knotts treated the families of South Carolina soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice to an afternoon of lunch, thanks and recognition for the seventh straight year. The Fallen Soldiers Ceremony and Luncheon was started in 2006 as an initiative of the senator. As a Vietnam veteran, he envisioned an event that would recognize those South Carolinians, along with their families, who made the ultimate sacrifice, the life of a loved one who fought for the freedom of this country. Dozens gathered in downtown Columbia today to receive words of encouragement, US flags and a state proclamation. Military parents told ABC Columbia News the gesture of thanks and appreciation is overwhelming and much appreciated. To date, 69 military heroes and their families have been honored.
