New indictment charges 7 in drug, murder plot

LAREDO, Texas (AP) — Federal officials have unsealed a new indictment against seven individuals, including some with military ties, who were allegedly involved in a drug trafficking scheme and murder-for-hire plot.

In March, 28-year-old Sgt. Samuel Walker and 29-year-old former Lt. Kevin Corley thought they were meeting with members of the Zetas drug cartel in Laredo. Instead, federal undercover agents arrested them.

Prosecutors made the announcement Thursday, one day after 23-year-old Robert Corley was arrested. He was due in federal court in Columbia, S.C., Thursday and faces extradition to Texas.

All seven men face marijuana and cocaine trafficking charges. All except Robert Corley are also charged with conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire and firearms charges.

Online records don’t list attorneys for Walker or Robert Corley. An attorney for Kevin Corley didn’t immediately return a message.
