Stephen Kelly to spend 50 years in prison in death of Briana Rabon

KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WOLO) — A Kershaw County man will spend 50 years in prison in the death of Briana Rabon. 21-year-old Stephen Kelly appeared in court Monday to face charges stemming from the death of 18-year-old Briana Rabon, on February 26, 2014. Rabon’s body was found dead in Elgin. Kelly plead to murder, kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct charges. Prosecutors sought life without the possibility of parole for Kelly. Bob ook said his client is “a good hearted kid who struggles drugs and addiction to pain pills and never intended to harm anyone on the night of Rabon’s murder.” During the court hearing Rabon’s mother and brother became emotional when speaking about the victim and both asked for Kelly to receive the maximum sentence. Cook apologized to Rabon’s family and friends on behalf of Kelly and his family earlier in the hearing. Kelly later personally apologized to Briana’s family, asking if they’ll allow him to tell happened on night of her death. They declined. According to Cook Kelly has was diagnosed with ADHD (Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) as child and struggles with anger issues. Stay with ABC Columbia for more updates on this story.
