HBO to Feature Midlands School’s Fight Against Obesity

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — A Midlands school’s fight against obesity garners national attention and will be spotlighted as part of an HBO documentary to raise awareness about childhood obesity. Satchel Ford Elementary School is one of 12 across the country to help kickoff a special documentary by Home Box Office Network, In.c., better known as HBO. The network’s series, called The Weight of the Nation raises awareness about childhood obesity and its dangers. As part of the program to get kids to make healthier food choices, a stand-alone salad bar and water filtration system were installed. The weight of the Nation premieres Monday, May 14th at 8pm ET on HBO. All films will be made available in English and Spanish, and will also stream free of charge on HBO.com. HBO’s goal is to implement 100 salad bars and 100 water taps in schools across the country by mid-September.
