Jordan named chancellor of USC Aiken

AIKEN, S.C. (AP) — The University of South Carolina Aiken has a new chancellor.

Sandra Jordan was named chancellor Thursday and will earn $205,000 a year.

The 56-year-old Jordan has been provost of Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville.

.She replaces Thomas Hallman, who is retiring after 12 years.

Jordan is a former art history professor at Lander University in Greenwood.

She worked to restructure the curriculum and built ties to the community and businesses at Georgia College.

USC President Harris Pastides says he wants Jordan to increase enrollment at the school, which has been about 3,300 students for the last decade.

She holds degrees from the University of Alabama and the University of Georgia.

Jordan also has worked at University of Montevallo, Eastern New Mexico, Murray State and Mississippi University for Women.
