Coroner identifies man killed in Northeast Richland Co.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Richland County Coroner Gary Watts has released the name of the individual that died just after 2 a.m. Tuesday morning at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital after being shot in Northeast Richland County. 19-year-old Derrick Finney, of West Columbia was pronounced dead in the emergency room after being shot on Baysdale Drive around 1:15AM. An autopsy conducted Tuesday shows that Finney died from complications of a gunshot wound to the chest. The Richland County Sherriff‘s Department continues to investigate but it appears that the victim was shot in self-defense by the home owner.
