Man charged with murder in Newberry turned himself in

NEWBERRY, S.C. (AP) — Police say a man has turned himself in to face a murder charge in at shooting that killed one person at a Halloween party in Newberry. Authorities said 31-year-old Christopher Omar Cromer surrendered to police Wednesday night and was charged with murder and attempted murder. Investigators say Cromer pulled out a gun and fired around 3 a.m. Nov. 1 after a large fight at the Drayton Street Community Center. Authorities say 24-year-old Richard Sims was hit by several bullets and died, while a second man was injured and survived. Investigators didn’t say why Cromer might have fired his gun. Cromer is awaiting a bond hearing. It wasn’t clear if he had an attorney.
