Vandalism sends Orangeburg-Wilkinson students home

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — Students at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School have been sent home while officials investigate vandalism that damaged about 20 classrooms.

Orangeburg County sheriff’s deputies say the property damage occurred Sunday night or early Monday.

Deputies say a preliminary investigation indicates some people entered the building and damaged classrooms and took electronics.

Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said the vandalism was discovered when firefighters responded to an alarm at 3:30 a.m. Monday.

Students were kept in the gym until 10 a.m. and then were sent home.

Ravenell said closing the school allows officers to gather evidence and officials to repair the damage before classes resume Tuesday.
