SC Guard prepares for coming hurricane season

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina National Guard leaders are working to ensure the state’s military is ready in case Gov. Nikki Haley calls upon them for the upcoming hurricane season.
Maj. Gen. Les Eisner, the Guard’s No. 2 officer, says there was a rehearsal Tuesday at the Guard’s armory headquarters in Columbia, and he thinks his troops are in good shape.
Eisner says the trial run helped identify what units need and if additional people or equipment has to be secured from other states.
The Atlantic hurricane season starts June 1.
Guard leaders plan to host several regional meetings for local Guard units in the coming weeks.
