Authorities ID man struck, killed by train in Orangeburg

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — Authorities in Orangeburg have identified a man who was struck and killed by a train.

Multiple media outlets report that the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office says 52-year-old Freddie Shivers died Monday. Police say the accident happened shortly after 10 p.m. Authorities say Shivers was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner’s office says Shivers died of massive blunt force injuries due to the collision.

Police say the train’s engineer told officers that he saw the man walking on the tracks, but couldn’t stop the train before striking him. Authorities say railroad warning lights and bells in the area were working properly.
