Army’s Fort Jackson Warns of Noisy Military Exercises

FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) — The Army is warning residents near Fort Jackson that they will be hearing loud thumps in the night. Army spokeswoman Kara Motosicky says members of the South Carolina Army National Guard are going to train with 155mm howitzers Friday night. The training is continuing through the day and into the evening on Saturday. The exercises mean loud explosions should be heard near the Guard’s base in the area known as Camp McCrady. Motosicky says the Guard makes every effort to minimize noise. However, if the wind shifts direction or cloud cover reflects the sound back to the ground, the noises may seem quite loud. There is no danger to members of the public located outside the installation.
