USC purchases buildings, land from SC ETV

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The University of South Carolina has purchased two buildings and more than six acres of land from from South Carolina ETV.

The State of Columbia reports (http://bit.ly/KFeeS9 ) the school will own ETV’s administration building next to Williams-Brice Stadium and a site behind ETV’s production facility that included a childcare center. The purchase price was $5.275 million, and the sale was approved Wednesday by the state Budget and Control Board.

Consultant Rick Kelly says USC will use the administration building to house institutes on families in society and public service and policy research as well as information technology operations. The building is the former home of The State newspaper.

Kelly said the childcare center will be used to temporarily house university offices that need to move during renovations on campus.
