Man sentenced to 45 years in SC pool hall death

RIDGELAND, S.C. (AP) — A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for a shooting death in a Ridgeland pool hall.

Solicitor Duffie Stone says Brett Howard was sentenced after he was convicted Wednesday of murder in the 2009 death of Woodrow Brantley.

Deputies say the 54-year-old Brantley was shot after an argument with Howard at Missy’s Lounge.

Witnesses said Brantley was shooting pool at the club when Howard misunderstood a conversation and pulled out a gun. Authorities say Howard shot Brantley in the face and turned himself in the next day.
