USC Blanks Arkansas 2-0 To Force Friday Game

The South Carolina Gamecocks survived their second elimination game of the day and kept their national title hopes alive with a 2-0 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks on Thursday night at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha. The Gamecocks (48-18) and Razorbacks (46-21) will meet again on Friday at 9 p.m. ET with the winner advancing to the championship series.

Three SC Guardsmen Killed in Afghanistan

Three South Carolina Army National Guard soldiers were killed in Afghanistan on Wednesday while conducting combat operations.
1st Lt. Ryan Davis Rawl, 30, of Lexington, Sgt. 1st Class Matthew Bradford Thomas, 30, of Easley and Spc. John David Meador II, 36, of Columbia were killed in Khowst City, Khowst Province, Afghanistan, when their patrol was attacked by a suicide bomber.

SC Senate Confirms State Inspector General

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ A 30-year FBI veteran will become South Carolina’s first independent inspector general.

The Senate voted unanimously on Thursday to confirm Patrick Maley (MAY’-lee), Gov. Nikki Haley’s pick for the agency that investigates allegations of fraud, waste and abuse in state government.

Roth Shuts Down Kent State, USC Survives 4-1

Riding a brilliant complete game two-hitter from senior ace Michael Roth, the South Carolina Gamecocks defeated the Kent State Golden Flashes, 4-1, in an elimination game on Thursday afternoon at the College World Series. With the win the Gamecocks (47-18) advance to play Arkansas in a 9 p.m. ET contest Thursday night.

USC Baseball Postponed

Thunderstorms in Omaha, NE prompted NCAA to announce just after 9:30 Wednesday night that the elimination game between the Gamecocks and Golden Flashes will take place Thursday at 11 a.m. CST (Noon EST).
