Aiken County Police Chief’s Daughter Killed

WAGENER, S.C. (AP) _ Authorities say the police chief in Salley rushed to a car crash outside his jurisdiction after finding out his daughter might be involved.
Investigators told The Aiken Standard that 20-year-old Lisa Bledsoe died in the fiery wreck after losing control on a rural road near Wagener around 5:50 p.m. Wednesday and smashing into a tree.

Drug Bust Nets 400 Pounds of Marijuana

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) _ Spartanburg County deputies have seized nearly 400 pounds of marijuana and arrested two men.

Sheriff Chuck Wright said Wednesday his narcotics unit seized 395 pounds of marijuana from two homes in Inman and Boiling Springs, along with a handgun, ammunition and material used to pack illegal drugs. The search followed a month-long investigation.

FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) _ Soldiers in training at Fort Jackson will be treated in a newly-renovated health clinic with room for about 12,000 soldiers every year.
Fort Jackson spokeswoman Nichole Riley says Tuesday’s ribbon cutting at the McWethy Troop Medical Clinic opens renovated primary care, physical therapy, radiology and lab units.
