USC Falls to Texas A&M in Heartbreaker

South Carolina belted a out a season-high 21 hits and scored a season-high 14 runs but a three-run rally by second ranked Texas A&M in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Aggies to a 15-14 victory over the Gamecocks on Saturday afternoon at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park. South Carolina is now 29-22 and 11-15 in the SEC with A&M 42-8 and 17-8 in league play.

Gamecocks Top Texas A&M 9-7 In Opener

Kyle Martin’s two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning highlighted a three-run frame as South Carolina defeated second ranked Texas A&M 9-7 on Friday night at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park. The win improves the Gamecocks to 29-21 and 11-14 in the SEC while the loss drops A&M to 41-8 and 16-8 in league play.

Clemson Cruises By Ga Southern 13-5

Chris Okey, Eli White and Steven Duggar all hit home runs and Weston Wilson tallied a career-high four hits to lead Clemson to a 13-5 victory over Georgia Southern at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Friday. The Tigers, who took a 1-0 lead in the series, improved to 26-24 on the season, while the Eagles fell to 27-22.

Gamecocks Rocket To Top Spot At Raleigh Regional

Top-seeded South Carolina carded the only under-par round of the day to take the lead on the second day of the NCAA East Regional. Led by junior Sarah Schmelzel’s 3-under 69, the Gamecocks went 2-under (286) on Friday to jump from sixth to first with a two-round score of 581 (+5). South Carolina will enter the final round at NC State’s Lonnie Poole Golf Course with an eight-stroke lead over Alabama.

Staley Adds Assistant Coach

University of South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley announced today the hiring of Fred Chmiel (pronounced shuh-MEAL) as an assistant coach. The two worked together for two seasons at Temple before Chmiel went on to five successful seasons at Penn State and Minnesota.
