Clemson Clocks Western Carolina 19-2

Behind an eight-run fifth inning and two four-run innings, Clemson defeated Western Carolina 19-2 at Hennon Stadium on Tuesday. The Tigers, who took a 1-0 lead in the home-and-home season series, improved to 12-11. The Catamounts dropped to 9-12.

Spurrier Talks QBs & Playcalling

The University of South Carolina football team returned to the practice fields on Tuesday afternoon as the fifth of 15 spring practices was conducted in near perfect weather conditions in Columbia.

“We had a decent practice today,” said head coach Steve Spurrier. “Guys were hustling around. Hopefully I think we made some progress today.”

Starke Fires 63, Ties USC Record

South Carolina junior Will Starke matched the school record by firing an 8-under 63 in the final round of the Valspar Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday at Floridian National Golf Club to lead the seventh-ranked Gamecocks to a third-place finish.

USC-UNC Women Set For 7 p.m. Friday

The Gamecocks will get a chance for Sweet 16 revenge on the Tar Heels in prime time Friday night. Top-seeded South Carolina will play #4-seed North Carolina at 7 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C. Friday.

The winner of that game will play the winner of Arizona State and Florida State noon Sunday for a spot in this year’s Final Four in Tampa.

Both games will be televised on ESPN.

Rooks To Transfer From Clemson

Patrick Rooks will transfer from Clemson, Head Coach Brad Brownell announced Monday. Rooks played in 13 games and scored 20 points in 2014-15 after redshirting his first season with the program due to a hip injury. Rooks’ biggest contribution came in a win over High Point on Nov. 28, when he scored 11 points in 12 minutes off the bench.
