Gamecocks Like Linebacker Change

The University of South Carolina football team (5-5, 3-5 SEC) worked out at the indoor facility on a chilly Tuesday afternoon in Columbia. The Gamecocks are preparing for their final home game of the 2014 season, a Saturday noon start against the South Alabama Jaguars (6-4, 5-3 Sun Belt). A win would make the Gamecocks bowl-eligible for a 10th-straight season.

The Gamecock defense played probably its best game of the season last Saturday at Florida. That may have been in part to a change at linebacker, where Skai Moore moved from Will to Mike and Jonathan Walton was inserted into the starting lineup at Will. “They’re both playmakers,” said linebackers coach Kirk Botkin.

Robinson To Play In East-West All-Star Game

Newberry College senior outside linebacker Edmond Robinson has accepted a bid to the 90th East-West Shrine Game, as announced by Shriners International on Tuesday.

The game will be played at St. Petersburg’s Tropicana Field at 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2015. It will also be televised live on the NFL Network.

USC Hoops Falls To Baylor 69-65

The South Carolina men’s basketball team hosted Baylor Tuesday afternoon as part of the ESPN College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon. The noon start wouldn’t faze either side, as the physical matchup was closely contested throughout. The Bears (2-0) were able to keep Carolina (1-1) at arm’s length for much of the game, and were able to seal the game with a pair of free throws late in a 69-65 win.

Spurrier Clarifies Clemson Remarks

Steve Spurrier avoided more talk about his future at his weekly press conference Tuesday to preview Saturday’s final home game of the season against South Alabama.

Spurrier was asked if he’d made a final decision on coaching next season, he referred to a statement he made two weeks ago saying the plan was for him to come back for the 2015.

The Ball Coach was also asked to clarify his Clemson comments from the Florida postgame press conference last Saturday.
