Led by senior Justine Dreher’s individual win, South Carolina captured the inaugural ANNIKA Intercollegiate title by seven strokes at the Reunion Resort’s Watson Course on Tuesday. In their first tournament of the season, the Gamecocks fired a 10-under 854 at the three-day event with Dreher finishing the tournament at 9-under.
Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson has been named the National Quarterback of the Week by the Davey O’Brien Award.
Watson completed 27-36 passes for 435 yards and six touchdowns in Clemson’s win over North Carolina. It was Watson’s first career start at quarterback for the Tigers.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Russell Hansbrough scored two of his three touchdowns in the final seven minutes and Missouri rallied from 13 points down to beat No. 13 South Carolina 21-20 on Saturday night.
Kentucky has suspended four freshmen for Saturday night’s SEC game against South Carolina for their involvement with air pistol shots being fired near a residence hall on campus. No one was injured Sunday night, but police issued an alert advising people to stay indoors on the Lexington campus as they investigated.
Quarterback Deshaun Watson and punter Bradley Pinion were both honored with player-of-the-week selections by the ACC on Monday. Watson was named co-offensive back-of-the-week along with NC State quarterback Jacoby Brissett, while Watson also earned rookie-of-the-week honors. Pinion was named co-special teams player-of-the-week with Justin Vogel of Miami (Fla.).
Monday the ACC set the game time for Clemson’s October 11th home game against Louisville for 3:30 p.m. It will air on either ABC, ESPN2 or ESPNU. The network will be determined after this Saturday’s games.
No. 14 South Carolina (8-3-0, 1-2-0 SEC) dropped its second contest of the weekend on Sunday at Stone Stadium, falling 1-0 to No. 22 Georgia (7-2-1, 2-1-1 SEC).
Former Gamecock and Calhoun County High School standout Alshon Jeffery caught a 2nd quarter touchdown pass to give Chicago a 17-14 lead. Green Bay went on to score 24 unanswered points to beat the Bears 38-17 in Chicago Sunday afternoon.
Steve Smith punished his former team with seven catches for 139 yards and two touchdowns, and the Baltimore Ravens beat the Carolina Panthers 38-10 on Sunday.
For the first time in the last 70 polls, the Gamecocks are not ranked in the top 25.
After Saturday’s 21-20 home loss to Missouri dropped its record to 3-2 on the season, South Carolina failed to make both the new coaches and Associated Press rankings.
Last week the Gamecocks were ranked #13 in the AP poll, #15 in the coaches poll.
