USC Football Sets Practice Schedule

The South Carolina Gamecock football team will open fall camp on Friday, August 1. The first week of practices, which are open to the public, will begin at 7:15 p.m. at the Bluff Road practice fields, across the street from Williams-Brice Stadium.

Downey Takes Team To Pro Am Finals

Devan Downey led his summer league team to the SC Pro Am league championship game with a win in the semifinals against a team led by incoming USC freshman point guard Marcus Stroman.

The much taller Stroman contained one of the most explosive players in Gamecock basketball history pretty well. Downey scored 21 points in the game. Stroman had 19.

Blowfish Officially Moving To Lexington

Shanahan & Company Sports Management LLC, parent company of the Blowfish, announced today that it has reached an agreement with the Lexington County Recreation & Aging Commission to market and manage a new collegiate baseball stadium in Lexington County.

Staley And Wilson Open Team USA Camp

South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley and incoming freshman A’ja Wilson began their quest for a gold medal in the FIBA Americas U18 Championship as the 2014 USA Basketball Women’s U18 National Team began training camp on Sat., July 26, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) in Colorado Springs, Colo. Staley is the team’s head coach, while Wilson headlines a trio of USA Basketball gold medalists on the team, which is on a mission to secure a seventh-consecutive gold medal at the event.

McCray Inducted Into Knoxville Hall

South Carolina women’s basketball assistant coach Nikki McCray added another hall of fame induction to her accolades as the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame welcomed her as part of its Class of 2014 Thursday night at the Knoxville Convention Center. She was honored for her outstanding career as a Tennessee Lady Vol as well as her professional and international highlights.

Minor league GM gets prostate exam

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — A minor league baseball manager in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, has done his part to spread prostate cancer awareness — he had a prostate cancer exam before a field packed with baseball fans.
