USC Athletes Continue To Top 3.0 GPA

The 2013-14 academic year continued a remarkable streak for South Carolina Athletics with a departmental GPA over 3.0 for the 15th-consecutive semester. While having a successful season athletically, the Gamecocks also achieved high marks in the classroom, following up a 3.161 GPA during the fall with a 3.222 mark for the spring semester.

Death Valley Tops ACC Stadium Poll

Clemson Memorial Stadium has been ranked as the number-one college football stadium in the ACC by Athlon Sports. The publication solicited a ranking from 12 beat media members from ACC schools and Clemson received nine of the 12 first-place votes to win the poll by a large margin.

Dyson Gets First Major League Win

Former Gamecock Sam Dyson earned quite the parting gift on his way back to the minor leagues Tuesday night–his first Major League win.

Miami edged Chicago 6-5 and Dyson’s 1.1 innings of relief earned him has first career win. Immediately after the game the Marlins sent Dyson back to AAA New Orleans.

Greiner Earns More All-American Honors

South Carolina junior catcher Grayson Greiner earned second-team All-America honors as announced by Perfect Game on Tuesday. It marks Greiner’s second All-America honor as he was honored by Baseball America last week as well. Greiner, a 3rd round MLB Draft pick by the Tigers, played in 60 games with 58 starts, hit .311 (66-for-212) with 39 runs scored, 50 RBI, 13 doubles and eight homers, also a .389 on-base percentage and a .486 slugging mark.

Benedict Football Gets National TV Game

Benedict College’s football game at Miles College has been changed to Thursday, Oct. 2 and will be televised on CBS Sports Network as part of the NCAA Division II Football Game of the Week television package.

Parker Makes MLB Debut

Former Tiger outfielder and quarterback Kyle Parker was called up to the majors for the first time with the Colorado Rockies on Monday. After starting for the Colorado Springs SkySox (AAA) on Monday afternoon in Colorado, he was pulled from the game and told he was being called up to the major league club.

Kyle Parker Gets Big League Call

Former Tiger outfielder and quarterback Kyle Parker was called up to the majors for the first time with the Colorado Rockies on Monday. If he plays in a game with the Rockies, he becomes the 51st Tiger in history and sixth in 2014 to play in a major league game. The Rockies begin a three-game series at the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night.

Rivals Combine For Special Teams Camp

This summer college rivals will join forces for a special cause. And for special teams.
USC’s Spencer Lanning and Clemson’s Chandler Catanzaro will hold a special teams camp in Greenville July 12th. Proceeds will benefit Epworth Children’s Home and ClemsonLIFE.
