USC Big NCAA Regional Favorite

South Carolina (42-16) goes into this weekend an overwhelming favorite. The Gamecocks have a 27-game NCAA tournament home winning streak that dates back to 2002. During that time, none of the other three teams in this year’s Columbia regional, #2 seed Maryland (36-21), #3 seed Old Dominion (36-24) and #4 seed Campbell (40-19), has even qualified for the NCAA tournament.

Gamecocks Ready For NCAA Regional

Carolina baseball gets a chance to extend another impressive postseason streak this week. The Gamecocks hope that will help them get one step closer to another College World Series.

USC (42-16) will try to win its 28th straight NCAA tournament game at home Friday night at 7 p.m. The #1-seeded Gamecocks host #4 seed Campbell (40-19) at Carolina Stadium.

Newton On Field For Panthers Workout

Cam Newton is quickly working his way back from ankle surgery.

Carolina’s Pro Bowl quarterback did some light throwing during Wednesday’s OTA and coach Ron Rivera said afterward he wouldn’t rule out Newton participating in the team’s mandatory minicamp June 17-19.

Gamecocks Give Montgomery Friday Start

The Gamecocks will start the 2014 NCAA tournament with their ace on the mound.

Wednesday night USC baseball announced via Twitter junior Jordan Montgomery will start Friday night’s 7 p.m. game against Campbell. The lefty from Sumter has been absolutely dominant in the NCAA tournament recently. In his last three tourney starts, Montgomery has pitched 24 straight shutout innings, striking out 20 and walking just two.
