Clemson Evens Series With Notre Dame

Daniel Gossett pitched a four-hit shutout in No. 24 Clemson’s 8-0 victory over Notre Dame at Frank Eck Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers (31-20, 13-12 ACC) evened the series against the Fighting Irish (18-31, 5-21 ACC) and picked up their first-ever win over Notre Dame.

Clemson’s Boyd Drafted by Jets

Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd was taken with the last of the Jets’ three compensatory picks in the sixth round. While Geno Smith and Michael Vick will compete for the starting job this summer, Boyd will likely go up against Matt Simms for the No. 3 spot.

Ellington Drafted by 49ers

University of South Carolina junior wide receiver Bruce Ellington was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He was the 106th player taken overall.

Clemson’s Thomas Drafted by 49ers

SID) — Former Clemson All-ACC offensive tackle Brandon Thomas was chosen in the third round of the NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers late Friday evening. He was the 100th selection of the draft overall. Thomas joined Sammy Watkins as Clemson players taken in the top 100 picks. Watkins was the number-four selection of the draft by the Buffalo Bills on Thursday evening.

USC Overwhelms Missouri 8-2 Friday

South Carolina junior left-hander Jordan Montgomery worked into the ninth inning and seven of nine Gamecock starters tallied at least one hit as the 11th ranked Gamecocks defeated Missouri 8-2 on Friday evening in the series opener at Carolina Stadium. South Carolina improves to 37-13 and 14-11 in the SEC with Missouri dropping to 20-28 and 6-19 in league play.

Fighting Irish Top Clemson 2-1 Friday

Junior righthander Pat Connaughton pitched 8.0 effective innings to lead Notre Dame to a 2-1 win over No. 24 Clemson at Frank Eck Stadium on Friday night. The Fighting Irish (18-30, 5-20 ACC) took a 1-0 lead in the series and snapped the five game-winning streak by the Tigers (30-20, 12-12 ACC).
