South Carolina knocks off Oregon State 78-69

SEATTLE (AP) — Aleighsa Welch had 21 points and 11 rebounds, Tiffany Mitchell added 20 points and 10 boards, and top-seeded South Carolina used its size and athleticism to overwhelm No. 9 seed Oregon State 78-69 on Tuesday night in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Clemson Maryland Baseball Series Adjusted

Due to impending inclement weather, Maryland and Clemson are now scheduled to play a doubleheader Friday beginning at 3 p.m. Game two of the doubleheader and series is slated to begin approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first game. Saturday’s game is still scheduled to start at 2 p.m. and serve as the series finale.

Mitchell 1 Of 12 Finalists For Wade Trophy

South Carolina sophomore guard Tiffany Mitchell is one of 12 finalists for The Wade Trophy, the Wade Trophy Committee, along with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and SHAPE America, announced today. The Wade Trophy is presented annually to the nation’s most outstanding NCAA Division I women’s basketball player. Mitchell is one of just three non-seniors among this year’s 12 finalists and is the third Gamecock all-time to on the list.

SC Senate Honors Spurrier

UNC’s Hatchell Eyes Final Four Return

North Carolina’s Sylvia Hatchell says she could return to coaching while battling leukemia if the Tar Heels reach the Final Four. Fourth-seeded UNC faces No. 1 seed South Carolina in this weekend’s Stanford Regional. If her team advances, Hatchell said Thursday that her doctor has told her being on the sideline for the national semifinals April 6 in Nashville, Tenn., would be “very doable.”

Gamecocks Host Tennessee In Top 25 Matchup this Weekend

South Carolina (21-3, 3-3 SEC) returns to SEC play this weekend with a three-game series vs. Tennessee (19-4, 3-3 SEC) at Carolina Stadium. First pitch for Friday’s opener is 7 p.m. with Saturday’s game set for 4 p.m. and Sunday’s series finale scheduled for 1:30 p.m. All three games can be heard on the Gamecock IMG Network including flagship station 107.5 FM, “The Game,” with Andy Demetra and Tommy Moody on the call.
