Spurrier’s Donations Reach $1 Million

Head coach Steve Spurrier’s annual donations back to the University of South Carolina have accrued to the $1 million mark as he approaches his 10th year directing the Gamecocks’ football program, according to Jeff Crane, Associate Athletics Director for Development.

“It’s good knowing you’re going to be the starter but it’s nothing I’m celebrating or anything,” said Thompson. “I’m ready to work. We’ve got a long way to go. I’m going to keep working and keep pushing myself. That’s what I’m going to focus on. Being the best leader for this team.”

Clemson Wins 5-4 At Ga Southern

Tyler Slaton’s two-run homer in the fourth inning gave the Tigers a 5-4 lead, the eventual final score in No. 13 Clemson’s 5-4 win over Georgia Southern at J.I. Clements Stadium Wednesday afternoon. The win was the 900th for Jack Leggett as head coach at Clemson. The Tigers (13-7) evened the two-game, midweek series against Georgia Southern (17-5).

Staley & Mitchell Finalists For National Awards

South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley is one of four finalists for the Naismith Women’s College Coach of the Year award, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today. Sophomore guard Tiffany Mitchell was named one of four finalists for the Dawn Staley Award, presented by The Phoenix Club of Philadelphia. Both awards will announce winners in April.

Scott Headlines New Clemson Hall of Fame Class

Former Lower Richland High School basketball standout Ed Scott headlines a new class of seven inductees into Clemson’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Scott was the class 4A high school player of the year and won a state championship at LR in 1999. He went on at Clemson to become one of only nine players in ACC history with at least 1000 points, 500 assists and 400 rebounds.
