Mitchell 1 Of 12 Finalists For Wade Trophy

South Carolina sophomore guard Tiffany Mitchell is one of 12 finalists for The Wade Trophy, the Wade Trophy Committee, along with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and SHAPE America, announced today. The Wade Trophy is presented annually to the nation’s most outstanding NCAA Division I women’s basketball player. Mitchell is one of just three non-seniors among this year’s 12 finalists and is the third Gamecock all-time to on the list.

SC Senate Honors Spurrier

The countless conversations that usually happen around official State House business officially took the floor Thursday when the SC Senate honored USC football coach Steve Spurrier with a resolution for his success with the Gamecocks.

UNC’s Hatchell Eyes Final Four Return

North Carolina’s Sylvia Hatchell says she could return to coaching while battling leukemia if the Tar Heels reach the Final Four. Fourth-seeded UNC faces No. 1 seed South Carolina in this weekend’s Stanford Regional. If her team advances, Hatchell said Thursday that her doctor has told her being on the sideline for the national semifinals April 6 in Nashville, Tenn., would be “very doable.”

Gamecocks Host Tennessee In Top 25 Matchup this Weekend

South Carolina (21-3, 3-3 SEC) returns to SEC play this weekend with a three-game series vs. Tennessee (19-4, 3-3 SEC) at Carolina Stadium. First pitch for Friday’s opener is 7 p.m. with Saturday’s game set for 4 p.m. and Sunday’s series finale scheduled for 1:30 p.m. All three games can be heard on the Gamecock IMG Network including flagship station 107.5 FM, “The Game,” with Andy Demetra and Tommy Moody on the call. Gamecocks Blank Coastal 4-0

Four Gamecock pitchers accounted for a one-hit shutout as second-ranked South Carolina tallied its 10th shutout of the season with a 4-0 victory over Coastal Carolina on Wednesday night. The Gamecocks are now 21-3 on the year while the loss drops the Chanticleers to 10-15.

Staley Wins Region Coach Of The Year

South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley 2014 Russell Athletic/WBCA NCAA Division I Region 3 Coach of the Year, the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced today. She and the other seven regional winners are now finalists for the inaugural Pat Summitt Trophy to be presented to the 2014 Russell Athletic/WBCA NCAA Division I National Coach of the Year, which will be announced on Mon., Apr. 7. Staley is the first South Carolina coach to earn the award.
